New book to consider-- what do you think? Is this one a QP?
I know short stories aren't always popular, but it has some great YA authors. I'm testing it-- let me know what you all think.

To me, the cover didn't jump out at me. The many authors did, but I don't know if they would for QP's. But a lot of QP's do want something "scary." - so I'm on the fence - will read.

A few months after her boyfriend's tragic death, November finds out she's pregnant with his child in this sequel to The Battle of Jericho. A few teens were interested in this cover (although I haven't asked any of them to read it yet), and I think the dialogue and situations are very realistic. It's already won a Coretta Scott Honor and was published in October 2007. The only reason I hesitate to nominate it is because it's over 300 pgs. long. Although, the type is pretty large and it reads very quick. Any thoughts?

Two of my incarcerated teens (hence the silly fake names dictated by the institution) have commented on it. When I asked the kids about the cover it got a good response. I leave the books there so the kids pick them up on their own. I think it is a pretty good sign that two kids read the book and wrote about it even though one of them didn't like it that much. When I took it there none of the kids claimed to like reading but some said that they were reading in jail since there was nothing else to do.

This a good book about a girl named November who is 16 and accidently gets pregnant by her boyfriend who was killed in an accident. She has a tough decision to make when everybody finds out because Josh her boyfriend, that died, parents want to take custody of the baby when it’s born and would pay in full for her collage. She can’t decide if she wants to or not. I liked the book because I have a son and found I had the same problem when I was 12, and I found that I and November both made the same decision in the end. Nominate? yes. Sbzeff Nvoo, 14

It was an ok book but it didn’t catch my attention that well. Nominate? no. Jpio Lfbiz, 15
I had review copies of this book last fall and two of my female computer regulars (13/14 yrs old) - neither one of them big readers - grabbed it out of my hands because they were intrigued by the cover and subject matter. One had read Draper books before for school and the other one had heard of "Battle of Jericho" but never read it. I gave a copy to both of them but only one got back to me. She said she liked the realism of the preganacy situation and the main character's interaction with her friends. she said she would recommend it to other people. I know that Jack Martin meant to nominate the book last fall but forgot to do it before the deadline. -- Anne Rouyer/NYPL

Sharon Draper is one author that is extremely popular with our teens. I had requests for November Blues before it was released. Right now I have a group reading the book,(2 boys and 2 girls) and although they are reluctant readers I noticed how much they were so into the cover that they grabbed the book the moment they saw it. Now I'm just waiting for their feedback. I would nominate it.

I've had this book since the pub sent it last year and it's been on display for award winners of 2008, for black history month, and folks have picked it up, but it hasn't circ'd once--not even to a teacher. I haven't read it, but none of my avids (who recognize the author) or rrs touched it. ~Jenine
